If so, when and under what circumstances?

Answer: I never had it to take.

Are you married or have you been married?

Answer: Yes Sir

If so, what is the size of your family living together?

Answer: I have lost my wife and have one child living with me.

What are the respective ages of your wife and the children living with you?

Answer: My wife has been dead 15 years and the one that lives with me, he is 28 years old and stayes (sic) there on the account of my health being bad.

To what sex do your children belong?

Answer: I have one girl and five boyes. (sic)

Are not some of your children able to support you?

Answer: No sir. They all have families but one and they poor like myself.

In what business are you now engaged, if any and what do you earn?

Answer: I can't earn much now, I am only able to tend my garden.

What estate have you in your own right, real and personal, and what is it's value?

Answer: I own ten acres of mountain land. I have no personal only my house hold goods. Every thing that I own is valued at two hundred and twenty. (sic) $225.00


What estate has your wife in her own right, real and personal, and what is it's value?

Answer: She has none.

How have you derived support for you and your family for the last five years?

Answer: I have supported myself as best I could when able to work.

Do you use intoxicants to any extent?

Answer: No Sir. Nor never did.

How long of you been an actual resident of the State of Tennessee?

Answer: All my life.

Have you an attorney to look after this application?

Answer: No sir, only one of my comrades who was with me in the war.

If so, give his name and address.

Answer: W.B. Pattie but he is not any atty., and what he does for us is don (sic) free gratis.
